Inaugural Golf Tournament is a 'Hole in One' for NorCal RCI

The NorCal Branch of the SoCal Chapter shared a splendid day with our closest friends and colleagues on August 17, 2017 with the hosting of the inaugural NorCal golf tournament.

The event signaled the beginning of the transition of the NorCal Branch toward full RCI Chapter status. A group of 127 enthusiastic golfers enjoyed the unseasonably mild temperature at Callippe Preserve Golf Course and overcame the challenging course in style. We also enjoyed the company of RCI President Michael Williams, RRC, RWC, RRO who flew in to attend the event.

The event was supported by over 50 sponsors, including Platinum Sponsor EPRO, and Gold Sponsors Kodiak Roofing, Versico Roofing Systems, and Carlisle Syntec Systems. Fourteen of the eighteen holes had tee box sponsors that handed out snacks, beverages, and giveaways. Dehydration was not a problem! The overwhelming success of this event was directly attributable to the energy and excitement of the sponsors and the hard work of volunteers.

Morning registration began at 8:30am, where golfers were signed in and directed to their foursomes. Golfers received swag bags full of giveaways and raffle tickets. The majority took advantage of the opportunity to purchase mulligans and additional raffle tickets. The putting contest was one of the most challenging we have seen! Breakfast burritos, coffee, tea, and juice provided the early morning energy.

The raffle was ‘pick-a-prize’ format, so golfers could place their raffle entries toward specific prizes in which they had interest.

Tournament winners; 1st Place trophies went to Chuck Miller, Chris Miller, Steve Galli, and Courtney Kyler. 2nd Place trophies went to Gene Smith, Chad Bailey, and Eric Smith. 3rd Place trophies went to Jeff Berg, Dave Waskey, Mike Perata, and Kevin Shinar.

Contest winners included; Longest Drive-Men’s Chris Miller, Longest Drive-Women’s Caroline Klatman, Straightest Drive Thomas Ede, Closest to the Pin Nick Vadasz (Closest to the Pin because it went in the cup!). Kevin Thurston won the Putting Contest.

Every par 3 had a hole-in-one prize available, including safaris, golf getaways, and money! We even had a lucky (all skill I am sure!) golfer get a hole in one – winning $15,000.00!

We handed out Raffle prizes and tournament awards while golfers and sponsors enjoyed a tasty dinner buffet. Raffle prize favorites included Yeti Coolers, 4k Smart TV, Roomba Vacuum Cleaner, Hero 5 GoPro camera, surveillance cameras, live Maine lobsters, and a digital safe, just to name a few.

Event proceeds will allow us to establish the NorCal Branch as a recognized Chapter of RCI, as well as support our industry educational training and technical presentations such as RCI and AIA seminars for CEH credits.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank SoCal Chapter of RCI. The support for a Norther California Chapter has been humbling and inspiring at the same time. Many of the Board Members and regular members have gone out of their way to be available to answer questions, provide lessons learned, and more. Szymon, Danielle, Ivan, Ed, and Arturo even came north to volunteer in person at the tournament.

We can’t wait to see you August 30, 2018 for the 2nd Annual tournament!
